YOUR LETTERS
“I stumbled upon your greenjobsphilly site, and your Philadelphia Regional & Independent Stock Exchange (PRAISE) proposal. I LOVE it! This is precisely the specific kind of plan I’ve been trying to gather others to brainstorm about regarding local communities across the states and how to start to turn things around on a grassroots level. Bravo!
—”Is there any progress regarding your PRAISE idea? I’ve always wanted to launch local initiatives, many similar to what you outlined in PRAISE, which can be replicated throughout the country to create healthier communities on all levels. Your outline was one of the most well developed I’ve seen– awesome!
—”Gathering to discuss such initiatives is one of my primary goals at Wishadoo!, so I’m trying to find others interested in such alternatives. wishadoo.org —Dena Patrick
—[REPLY] PRAISE is a concept ready to happen, when enough people are ready to pioneer. I’ve put you on the list, thanks!
——
“Rachel and I are really happy about the work that the mayor has done to open up bike lanes in the city, but we are also sick of bike lanes being an easy progressive score for an otherwise tory administration.
—”Mayor Nutter opposes the sick time bill that passed City Council last week, and plans on vetoing it. The bill would allow workers to earn up to five days of paid sick time after working at a job for ninety days, and up to seven days in larger businesses like Walmart. Employers with fewer than five workers on payroll would be exempt.
—”We think it’s time that bikers stop being such cheap dates! We need to organize a Critical Mass demonstration to connect our need for complete streets with our need for complete jobs. The demonstration will have to target the mayor, city council, and even ally groups like the Bicycle Coalition to take a broader view of the public welfare.” –James Kennedy and Rachel Playe and article.
—[REPLY] San Francisco’s paid sick days law has proven good for their economy
